What is Social Justice?

What makes us different? What makes us whole?

What keeps entire Peoples from reaching their goals?

The color of my skin and the land of my ancestors

Has determined my place in this capitalist world of sequesters

And still, I rise every morning just as surely as the sun

With hopes of achieving all that I have dreamt of

I work twice as hard as you; my compensation divided in two

Wondering why in this lifetime I can’t be as successful as you

Must I lose myself in adaptation to fit in with my own oppressor?

No. That is not social justice. It is Their moral transgression

The answer may exist in this thing called diversity

If only we learned to cherish it as a valuable entity

My participation in this world deserves equal respect

The voice of my People you must no longer deject

But recognition is not enough to undo the demoralization

You must make reparations if we are to reach self-realization

Calling out your uninterrupted history of injustice and enslavement

Still, you continue to cage us in lucrative camps of detainment

The world is watching you exposed by our collective voice

And now, you must take a stand; neutrality is no longer a choice

Against us or for us, that is not our concern

We will achieve social justice until our souls no longer burn

We won’t desist, we will resist.
